LISTEN: Movement ‘Us’ (Giraffage Remix)
Latest signee’s to Aussie label MODULAR PEOPLE, MOVEMENT are starting to heat up. With a whirlwind of hype surrounding their latest single ‘US’ the boys are turning heads globally with their deep and sexy downtempo vibes. And now, cementing the group’s presence, young Cali-based producer GIRAFFAGE has been enlisted for remix duties.
GIRAFFAGE is known for his out-of-the-box thinking when it comes to production, with his tracks brimming with calm and chilled vibes whilst also being doubly happy and bouncy.
With a huge number of remix work under his belt, eclectically ranging from artists like Owl Eyes to Janet Jackson, it’s easy to see why the producer was a first choice when it came to remixing the likes of MOVEMENT.
The remix of ‘US’ is a world away from the original. Covered with cheery staccato synths and almost-but-not-quite cheesy samples of glissandi chimes and drum machine percussion, GIRAFFAGE’s re-working flips the vibe of the track from deep and dark into a simply cute and playful poppy rendition.
One of the most impressive things about the remix is the technique of vocal cutting throughout the track. Utilizing the voice samples as more of a textured instrument rather than lyrical content, GIRAFFAGE finds ways to bend the sound of the lyrics around his track to create a unique tone out of familiar material.
With this remix surfacing shortly after the release of Kowtown’s re-work of the MOVEMENT track, GIRAFFAGE’s remix of ‘US‘ visits the other side of the electronic-spectrum, bringing fun and playful sounds to the deep and sensual release – all bases covered.
