Live Review: LISTEN: Hayden James 'Embrace (Version)'

2 September 2013 | 3:30 pm | Tom Hutchins

Hayden James has decided to share a special little b-side from his Self-Titled EP. It's called 'Embrace (Version)', and it's extremely good.

Future Classic have definitely done it again with HAYDEN JAMES. Single number one, 'Permission To Love', was a "balearic, summer pop-jam, equally suited to the beach and the dance floor". That was then accompanied by a number of cool remixes and an equally impressive 8-bit styled clip. Oh he also just released an insanely impressive debut EP.

But if that wasn't enough, he's decided to share a special little b-side from his Self-Titled EP. It's called 'Embrace (Version)', and it's extremely good. If the name is a little familiar, it's probably because you noticed that the EP closer is also named 'Embrace'. Well, solid pickup - as this b-side is in fact a little alternate cut of the original.

This track is as beautiful as it could be. It's actually hard to decide which is better, the original or the '(version)'. The main addition to the latter is a brand new percussive backing, a cowbell takes control of 'Embrace' and gives it a much faster tempo. Later on there are some more industrial percussive beats that take over, and overall there is a much greater dance vibe.

If anything, this is the perfect accompaniment to the EP. A brilliant percussive based track, that still encompasses all the funk and smooth soul from the release - yet provides something a little off the cuff. It's different, but it signifies that James hold a great deal of talent and we're sure this is just the beginning of something great.

Hayden James' Self-Titled EP is out now via Future Classic. Steam it in full here.
