Live Review: WATCH: Tokimonsta 'Soundcheck' Documentary

If you consider yourself a fan of experimental beats, bleeps and bloops, dreamy synths and buzzing bass saws and you haven't heard of TOKiMONSTA, you have some serious catching up to do.

The lovely lady hailing from the South Bay area in Los Angeles, (known to her mum as Jennifer Lee) has been steadily making her way across the globe over the past few years with many releases through the Brainfeeder label, brainchild project of Flying Lotus.

TOKiMONSTA is best known for her experimental take on hip-hop and her talent to create vast textures through the use of live instrumentation, percussion and digital manipulation - the result of which ends up being a stunning kaleidoscope of sound.

Last month, the LA producer graced our shores with a string of live shows spanning our major cities. Australian events group, THE OPERATIVES managed to catch up with TOKiMONSTA backstage at her Melbourne show at the Hi-Fi Bar for a quick chat. Presented by THE OPERATIVES, the video is the debut episode in a new series entitled SOUNDCHECK.

SOUNDCHECK aims to take an intimate look at some of the world's finest electronic producers as they tour Australia. Combining in-depth interviews and footage of the gigs, the exclusive clips offer a backstage pass into the musicians world. Definitely looking forward to who and what's in store for future episodes of the series!
