Live Review: WATCH: Portugal. The Man 'Modern Jesus' (Official Video)

12 August 2013 | 2:15 pm | Lauren Payne

Portugal. The Man have released a new film clip that sees New Orleans in a whole new light.

With the recent news that PORTUGAL. THE MAN will be coming down under to play Big Day Out 2014, I took it upon myself to delve into their back catalogue and just discover just how good of a show they are going to put on at the festival.

The band have always created greats tracks that seem to have some sort of meaning behind them whether it be something small, or something quite big. Their track 'Modern Jesus' definitely touches on something big. The lyrics in tell a story of human nature and how misunderstood and scared some of us can be, the music video that has just been released for the track could probably explain that better than I could.

The beginning images of churches and statues of the Virgin Mary definitely paint a picture as to what this music video will turn out to be, but of course you don't get the real picture until you see the slow motion shot of the girl shaking her ass at you.

The video's director A.G Rojas did a great job showing unique people around New Orleans and how solemn and fragile those individuas are. The young kids rolling cigarettes, the boy sitting in an empty park fidgeting in his hoodie with huge bags under his eyes. The old man tap dancing on a plastic board to his grandson playing the banjo is a nice scene.

PORTUGAL. THE MAN will be on Australian shores for Big Day Out in 2014 and who knows what else they've got in store for us until then. So excuse me whilst I go and listen to their album for about the fifth time today.
