REVIEW: Triple J House Party @ The Metro, Sydney

30 August 2013 | 5:45 pm | Luke Letourneau

Our writer Luke ventured over to The Metro to experience Triple J's House Party Tour first hand and this is what happened.

On Saturday August 24 the Triple J House Party kicked off their nation wide tour at The Metro in Sydney with the ultimate party host NINA LAS VEGAS at the helm.

With a line-up that featured FLIGHT FACILITIES, CASSIAN, TYLER TOUCHE, WAVE RACER and the host herself the tour has enough variety to bring together a range of tastes. Throughout the evening we were treated to a mix of tracks old and new and in the styles ranging from house, pop, hip-hop and disco, just to list a few.

This is obviously very much in-line with what fans of the radio show had come to expect and respect from the House Party platform (and the compilation LP series the artists were all there to promote). However, more importantly, the music actually mimicked the energy of a house party, the kind of energy where different people can come together, dance silly and sing along.

In regards to the performers on the night, CASSIAN stayed true his funk-house sounds, while NINA LAS VEGAS was characteristically rambunctious and hyperactive in her presence and music selection. FLIGHT FACILITIES’ DJ set that that perfectly fit the vibe of both the night and the House Party brand, and the duo were decked out in vintage aviation outfits to boot.

Featuring the perfect mix of their own tracks, remixes and ‘fuck-yeah-love-that-song’ jams, FLIGHT FACILITIES had the audience captured for the entirety of their set. The guys had a tendency to mix their own songs amongst some of the most far ranging genre cherry picking. The three moments the audiences had the greatest reaction to was when they dropped Michael Jackson’s ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’, Kanye West’s ‘Black Skinhead’ and Donna Summers’ ‘Love To Love You Baby’, and all in fairly quick succession of one another.

The evening was filled with a real sense of fun. There was a great deal of good energy from both the audience and the stage. When looking up at the stage it seemed everyone working the event were having a good time – due to the fact there seemed to be a lot of people on the stage dancing around. And that really is how it was the whole night; people were just enjoying each other and were really into the vibe.

Triple J House Party Tour continues until the 6th of September, and the Triple J House Party Volume 2 LP is on sale now.
