Today Brisbane band VIOLENT SOHO announced they will release their 3rd studio album ‘Hungry Ghost’ through I OH YOU Records on the 6th of September, 2013.

Coupled with this exciting news comes the first listen of the first single to be taken from the LP in the form of a blistering track titled ‘In The Aisle’ and finally the announcement of three intimate album preview shows on the East Coast of Australia this August.

Although VIOLENT SOHO came screaming back into the limelight in the 2nd half of last year with their double A-side release, which featured the singles ‘Tinderbox’ and ‘Neighbour Neighbour’, it’s been three long years since the band released their self-titled 2nd album through Thurston Moore’s (of Sonic Youth) label Ecstatic Peace. Off the back of that record, the four friends from Mansfield (4122 forever) were propelled into a whirlwind couple of years which included their single ‘Jesus Stole My Girlfriend’ peaking at #23 on the Alt Billboard charts, touring the US with acts like Alice in Chains, Built to Spill, The Bronx, Dinosaur Jr and being invited to play the ATP festival in England by Les Savy Fav.

After all of the above (and quite a bit more), VIOLENT SOHO returned to their hometown of Mansfield and began writing album #3. After an extensive (occasionally frustrating) writing period and determined back and forth over a large collection of songs/ideas, the band set up home in the Brisbane studio simply (and quite accurately) titled ‘The Shed’ with local Brisbane producer Bryce Moorhead (Dick Nasty, The Quickening) for six weeks to track the record, shortly after that the songs were then sent to NYC to be mixed by John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Kurt Vile). Finally, all that is left from three years of tiring but tireless work is 11 songs and 44 minutes, which collectively make up Violent Soho’s 3rd LP ‘Hungry Ghost’ – a record that is diverse yet typically Soho.

Given that fans of the band have waited so patiently for the arrival of this album, we thought it only fair to today drop the first taste of ‘Hungry Ghost’ in the form of ‘In The Aisle’, a brutal and passionate track which will tear through your speakers while Boerdam’s lyrics delve into the way society often shuns individuals who act outside the norm.

Finally, East Coast fans of the band will be happy to hear that they will not have to wait long before seeing some of VIOLENT SOHO’s new material played live as the band have just announced three small capacity album preview shows in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne for August. All shows are small capacity with only a limited number of tickets available in each city so get in quick.

Hungry Ghost is the album VIOLENT SOHO needed to make. Intelligent, melodic, soaked in Brisbane’s curious culture and dripping with attitude.
