Side projects come and go extremely often, some kick off and spawn a whole new career for an artist, whilst some fade away into the distant realm of obscurity. Today, we bring you side project from a couple of established locals, that we believe has the potential to stay around for a long while to come. Say hello, to DUMB BLONDES.

Bringing together the minds of Jordan Malane (of Bleeding Knees Club fame), Nicholas Futcher (of Kite Club fame) and Joel Abbott (has the same last name as opposition leader, Tony Abbott) - Dumb Blondes is an outlet for 3 young individuals to take their music in a different direction. And the the first result of this is through their debut single, 'Into The Light'.

According to their management team, Jerko (BKC, Wax Witches, Step Panther), 'Into The Light' is a 'Cosmic Surf' creation, and even though we're lost to exactly what that means - we also kind of agree with them. It contains the geniune energy and intelligence that Malane and Futcher picked up from their respective bands, but is a much more Brit-Pop inspired creation.

Gone are the Garage tendencies, and looping melancholic sounds from their previous works - and in comes harsh guitars, swimming in whirling distortion. It may not seem to complex, and does mirror the works of their influences of yesteryear - but in saying that - it's also bringing back a sound not seen in new bands in 2013.

And more importantly, if you just sit back and take the song on it's own merits - away from all of the comparisons - there is more than enough there to get excited about.

'Into The Light' is available for free download, and Dumb Blondes will be heading on their debut East Coast tour later in the year. We'll have more details as they come to hand.
