Hand Games Magazine Launch Parties
Recently we had the pleasure of interviewing Luen Jacobs – the mastermind behind music collective HAND GAMES. Towards the end of our chat, she told us a little of what to expect in the very first issue of the Hand Games zine that was co-edited by Jacobs & Georgia Watson and was designed by Shinya Dalby.
If you’re not already aware, the zine is kicking it old school, as it is to be a physical, folded, small book of paper that can be scribbled all over and left on your bedside table. If you treat it right, it’s yours forever. Which is a pretty sick thought considering the content of the first issue.
As you peel the front cover over from right to left, you’re to come across a series of contributions from artists Nick Allbrook (of POND), Fergus Miller (of Bored Nothing), HTML Flowers, Sarah Mary Chadwick (also known for her work in Batrider), Ta-ku and Mining Boom. Hand Games have also conducted interviews with Royal Headache, Oliver Tank, Oisima (who is managed by Hand Games) and more.
You can also expect some nifty illustrations throughout and a community band map of Perth occupying the zine’s centrefold.
So surely by now you want this more than ever, right? Well it can be yours for a base rate of just $4 via the Hand Games‘ BANDCAMP! That’s like going to McDonalds with just enough money for the loose change menu (except this is far more filling and healthier for you). You could alternatively supply the lovely Hand Games folk with some extra clams though. After all, they do cater to us with a free mixtape each month!
Do keep in mind that this is for pre-order. Speaking of which, if you’re one of the first 100 buyers to purchase the zine, you’ll also be sent a very special and exclusive CD-R of music from Bloodsports – the mystery project of a Hand Games contributor! What’s even cooler is that it will be home-burnt, hand packaged and is to feature a cover of White Town‘s ‘Your Woman’. Now that is some quality respect paid to the loyal Hand Games following.
The zine is a pretty rad idea, so why not throw a big zine launch tour?
Having just celebrated their first birthday, Hand Games will be popping into Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide (for the first time) with some beers and bands to celebrate their very first piece of editorial love. And also because it’s an excuse to throw a killer party; just one of the many things that these ladies and gents are so very good at doing!
