Our Gold Coast buddy and killer beatmaker PACES has just announced he will release his debut EP 'The Pact', with title single featuring Chela, on groundbreaking US label SYMBOLS.
Mikey Perry (aka PACES) has been a busy guy. Whether he's being named a 'Top New Producer to Watch' by inthemix; receiving national airplay love on triple j; remixing the likes of PARACHUTE YOUTH, YESYOU and SAMPOLOGY; supporting producer extraordinaire LUNICE; or having his bootleg of ‘Angels’ (THE xx) receive over 22,000 plays on Soundcloud (cracking the 'Top 20 Most Popular' tracks on HypeMachine). He certainly shows no signs of slowing down!
PACES sound, a moody combination of 808 drums, chopped vocal samples, synths, wonky pianos and harps could sit at home amongst any of his musical idols. Think Ta-Ku, SBTRKT, The Postal Service and Mount Kimbie. So it is no surprise that visionary San Francisco label boss Kastle has picked up PACES debut EP The Pact for his forward thinking electronic label SYMBOLS, where his motto is ‘the feeling is the genre’.

The Pact featuring artwork by SYMBOLS incredible resident designer Joyce Su, features 3 originals and a remix from Melbourne newcomer W1SP. The title track, a ballad for the future-bass generation, features the heartfelt and mesmerising vocal prowess of uber-talented songstress Chela.
If The Pact pulls at the heart-strings, then Love You Hate This, with it’s moody synths and stormy basslines, tears them right out, with a nod to Apparat and Hudson Mohawke. Last but by no means least is Ignite which, like its name professes, lights the fire within and spurs you into action, and is without question destined for dancefloor success.

GINGER AND THE GHOST 'ONE TYPE OF DARK' (TA-KU REMIX)
"Ta-Ku has got the magic touch. Everything the guy releases (and it's a LOT of releases) is always crazy tasteful. He's one of my top inspirations for sure."

"My pal W1SP taught me how to make beats way back when we used to work together in a skate shop in Melbourne. He's done a remix of The Pact on my EP which is sooo good! This tune 'Oh Ah' is crazy. The first time i heard it I jizzed lightning and set my room on fire. He's gonna be a big contender in the Australian beatmaking scene, you heard it here first."

"This tune has not gotten old for me at all and I'm sure it never will. To me this is a modern day classic. I honestly believe that I'll be an old grandpa showing my grandkids my SBTRKT record and telling them about the times that i saw him perform live back when people used to go outside haha!"
PACES Debut EP 'The Pact' is out on SYMBOLS (USA) Wednesday June 12.
