Every time you walk into a boutique store, you're engulfed in a space occupied by eclectic pieces of clothing/crockery/jewellery/material/furniture (etc). It's usually pretty cool, but also fashions a pretty large price tag. If you were at the first ever OUTSIDEIN last year, you'd understand exactly why it's labelled as a boutique festival.

There's good food and drinks on offer, the company is friendly and lively, the festival set up and lighting is superb and you're surrounded by a combination of talent that breaks down the barriers of "normal" or "safe" music. So ultimately, you're in a space that is quite expensive due to its extremely tasteful environment and variety.

What confuses me though, is that access to this sophisticated event wasn't actually expensive at all. For fifty dollars at Sydney's Factory Theatre, you had the freedom to visit two different stages featuring a huge amount of acts such as DRO CAREY, SMOKE DZA, FLUME, GUERRE, COLLARBONES, HOLY BALM, MELO-X, CLIQUES, FISHING, POLOGRAPHIA and so much more. There was also the GoodGod Small Club Outdoor Stage in the Factory's courtyard that featured DJs (such as MARY'S BASEMENT, FUTURE CLASSIC DJS and PELVIS) constantly spinning good vibes; whether it was 70s throwback disco or the latest jams in the dance music world.

On top of all this, you were breathing the same air as Thom Yorke! Now that is something.

The festival even scored the title as 2012's "Best Music Event" for last years FBi SMAC Awards!

After a hugely successful [sold out] event last year with a booming after party held at GoodGod Small Club, co-curators Yes Please and Astral People have announced OutsideIn's return this year as they've locked in the official festival date for September 21st!

With venue and acts yet to be announced, keep an eye on OutsideIn's FACEBOOK and WEBSITE.

Who would you like to see on the bill?
