FRENCH HORN REBELLION are a two-piece sibling outfit hailing from the cities of Brooklyn & Milwaukee. They describe themselves as '...two brothers who enjoy photoshopping French horns onto things they shouldn't be photoshopped on."

Now I know we've interviewed the band before (back in the summer of 2011) but they've recently teamed up californian producer VICEROY to collaborate on a brilliant jam titled 'Friday Nights'. We actually featured the track last week, you can listen to and download it for free HERE.

After loving the tune so much we decided a second bro-down with the act was definitely needed so we had a quick chat with member Robert Perlick-Molinari to discuss how this brilliant meeting of the minds came together and what's FRENCH HORN REBELLION have in store for us this year...

You've just released your collaborative track with Viceroy titled 'Friday Nights'. What was the process like working together?

It was really easy- honestly.  We pretty much did the song in one 4-hour session.  I think we were coming from the same place on what we wanted out of the track, and it happened like lightning... 'FRIDAY NIGHTS!'

I've read that 'Friday Nights' is about finding trouble in a bromantic paradise. What led you guys to write this track? Is it about a specific buddy of yours?

I can't think of a specific person that this is about, but I would say that Friday is such a hectic night of the week-- and even your best friends can go missing once the party train takes them.  I'm guilty of this all the time- I'll disappear into the night and wake up in my bed the next day thinking 'where was I? What was I doing?'  There was a night like that recently when I was party hopping -- and stumbled across Viceroy at the DL in NYC, sipped some of his champagne, then disappeared.

What is the perfect Friday night for the Perlick-Molinari brothers?

I love it when we can take visitors coming to NYC out on the town and show them a good time.  Street tour mixed with good hangs and fun times is the best.

'Friday Nights' is to be released as a remix package featuring Rush Midnight, Bronx and Jessie Andrews on the 29th April. What is your favourite remix on the package?

I don't want to play favorites, so maybe better if I don't mention which one I like the most.  They're all amazing, honestly!

You say you've invented a new genre called "New Jack Swing". Briefly explain to our readers what this is.

Actually, we're calling it 'Next Jack Swing' -- it's like the Fresh Prince mixed with Nu Disco, and sent on a spaceship flying around the moon.  We started French Horn Rebellion making Nu Disco- and we wanted to make our stuff a little funkier, and little saucier, and a little more geeky -- so that's when we slowed the tempo down, and increased the swing.  All of a sudden we got a sound more similar to New Jack Swing than Disco -- so that's when we said 'Eureka ! We've created Next Jack Swing in the hot beat lab!'

Being the pioneers, do you think this genre will become revolutionary?

I would say we are pioneering the sound, but it has yet to become a revolution, just a rebellion at this point.

How did you come up with the name French Horn Rebellion?

I'm a classically trained French horn player.  I played in a lot of orchestras- The Chicago Civic Orchestra, Northwestern Symphony Orchestra, and more- and one day I just thought making hot beats would be a lot more fun than playing Beethoven.  I gave it a shot, and I found my new calling immediately.

In your opinion/from previous experience, what is the worst thing a bro could ever do to his bestest pal?

NUT TAPS! lol (PHJD) hahaha

Can we expect to see French Horn Rebellion hit Australia any time soon?

There's a good possibility we'll be back in October.  Keep a lookout!

What are the rest of your plans for 2013?

We'll be releasing a new jam every 6-7 weeks for the next few months. Get excited to keep dancing!
