Live Review: LISTEN: Concrete Knives 'Truth'

It’s not too often that our continental friends produce music in English, so imagine how excited we were to hear ‘Truth’, a new tune from French band Concrete Knives. 

It’s only to be expected that a band with such a name play rough punk or metal. Au contraire the fivesome produce quirky indie pop that is both simple and euphoric.

The new track channels old school Talking Heads and even earlier Jefferson Airplane with chanting back vocals set among the rhythmic bass. The flowing riffs and complex melody kick up the sunny pop to another level. Concrete Knife harnesses the classic male-against-female vocal dynamics in a spontaneous Mama ‘n’ Papa’s kind of way.

We can only look forward to more smouldering, French romance mixed among playful melodies. ‘Truth’ is the ninth track off Concrete Knives’ debut album Be Your Own King which will be released this month through Bella Union.
