Remember when MTV used to play music videos? I don't. I was too young to be able to sit still and consciously absorb a whole 3 minutes of television that didn't involve Power Rangers or Biker Mice. Also I didn't have cable. All that aside there seems to be a large collective of passionately nostalgic kids from my generation that seem to be pretty upset about where the channel has placed itself in the modern realm of entertainment television.

For those people, Michael Destiny - Head of Programming at MTV, gave this statement:

Harsh, but ultimately fair. The good news for those who miss this particular format of Music Television, is that three super powers of the modern (dance) music scene: Diplo, Skrillex and A-Trak, have joined forces to create Potato'a web-based music network on YouTube that aims to bring back the spirit of early music television for the digital and mobile era'.

The trio are working together, connecting the dots and high-lighting the similarities between today's YouTube explosion and the early days of cable television, looking to create a network that echoes MTV's initial mission statement: "You'll never look at music the same way again."

Excited to jump head first into this new era of web based formatting? Of course you are, and we have good news! The channel launches today at 4pm EST.
