It's been reported that Sydney's iconic Annandale Hotel is to go into receivership.

When the Hopetoun Hotel closed it's doors back in 2009, a piece of Sydney's culture was lost. Not wanting to experience this pain ever again, it seems as though Sydney is quite the victim as it has been noted that the Annandale Hotel is to go into receivership.

The iconic venue was established as a nothing more then a pub back in the 1930s, until Peter Morris converted the watering hole into a live music venue.

In 1998, poker machines came in and the music went out as the venue was sold and transformed into something that is shouldn't have been. Luckily, current owners - Matt and Dan Rule - came into the scene and ensured that it return to entertaining punters through nothing more but music. They bought the hotel in the year 2000.

The venue has been the home to many a band, hosting both local and international talent. Always feeling privileged to play the venue, it's clear that this hub is a cherished one.

Considering the debts that the hotel has fallen into, as well as the noise complaints the hotel has previously endured, I wouldn't blame you for thinking that the Rule brothers will again somehow manage to find their feet. But this time is different.

Gone are the days when the Buy-A-Brick campaign will help rescue the venue from danger as it has been reported that the keys of the hotel will be handed into the bank this afternoon.

It's also been brought to attention that there was a private farewell party just last night. Those who attended were welcomed to have their last drinks within the hotel that has been known for it's sticky floors and fantastic music.

After checking out their upcoming roster (which you can have a look at HERE), the hotel's future looks strangely empty compared to it's usual lively self over the next coming weeks.

It's not known what is to happen to the gigs that have been booked to play the venue over the next few months.

Such an awful happening to our live music scene, the future of the Annandale Hotel is unforeseeable.
