WIN: Purple Sneakers DJs WA Show Tickets

24 January 2013 | 5:00 pm | Staff Writer

Hold on to your seats because Purple Sneakers DJs are inviting you to the biggest Australia Day weekend you are ever going to see!

Hold on to your seats because Metropolis Fremantle is bringing you the biggest Australia Day weekend you have ever seen! Three massive parties over one insane long weekend!

It all starts on Friday 25th with Frat House Fridays BEACH PARTY! Don your bathers and boardies for the biggest surfs up student party this side of the hemisphere! The entertainment doesn't stop there! Resident Frat House boys the Death Disco DJs will be battling it out against THE PURPLE SNEAKER DJS!

There’s a good reason that your girlfriend doesn’t look at you in the same way anymore, and its thanks to Purple Sneakers DJs. This inappropriate duo is the union of PhDJ (the one with the hat) and Randall Stagg (the one with the hair).

Having started in the now legendary original Purple Sneakers club, Purple Sneakers DJs have been gradually building a reputation as one of Australia’s highest profile song-based (indie) DJs. The duo have stepped away from the club over the recent years, headlining capital city shows in their own right.

These purveyors of partying have supported the likes of Miike Snow, Sleigh Bells, Bloc Party, Odd Future, The Kills and The Rapture as well as invited to warm up dancefloors at iconic Aussie festivals, Big Day Out, Parklife, Field Day, Splendour In The Grass and Groovin The Moo to name a few.

After releasing the popular ‘We Mix You Dance’ series of compilations as well as preparing re-rubs for acts so varied as French electro belle Yelle, Reptar (USA), White Arrows (USA), Oh Mercy, Jinja Safari and Architecture in Helsinki, Purple Sneakers DJs now turn their attention to original production.

In true Purple Sneakers style, collaboration is the key for ‘Last One Standing’. Featuring the compelling vocals of Amy Pes of Sydney indie outfit Tokyo Denmark Sweden ‘Last One Standing’ occupies a space somewhere between the homespun reverb-laden ‘indie synth-pop’ styling of Grimes, and the blatant all out ‘hands in the air’ club vibes of DJ/Producers like RAC and Erol Alkan.

In a nice doff of the cap to the boys’ production chops their first single ‘Last One Standing’ will be released October 5th worldwide on New York underground specialist dance label Plant Music – home to acts like Whatever Whatever, Eli Escobar, Tittsworth, Clubfeet, The Aston Shuffle etc, and locally through the newly-formed Purple Sneakers label.

The full single package also features a summery disco house remix by Toronto guy Jeremy Glenn, and a deep mainroom mix by NYC house producer DJ Wool.

To celebrate the launch of their new label and bangin‘ new tune, Purple Sneakers DJ’s will be heading to WA in January for two special performances over the Australia Day long weekend.
