A Purple Sneakers Christmas: Our Holiday Playlist

24 December 2012 | 12:00 pm | Hannah Story

This is a Festivus for the rest of us, and by that we mean, a Christmas playlist to get you through all this family togetherness candy cane time.

If you're someone who has worked in retail, the thought of listening to Christmas songs EVER is probably horrifying. If you're like me you probably wouldn't mind hearing covers from your favourite bands, or even carolling a bit, because hey, you've never had a job (in retail or otherwise). So why not sit back and relax and listen to Christmas songs? Heck, you could even listen to songs that have the word Christmas in them but are actually morbid and sad and not in the holiday spirit at all. That's up to you. You can make your own decisions.

But we decided to help you out, spread a little cheer, and listen to Christmas songs in the office all day. An Christmas playlist for the best of us.

(I refrained from using Wham! even though I really wanted to. I'll just sing it on the day instead: 'Last Christmas I gave you my heart, but the very next day you gave it away...' -sob-

'All I Wonderful Christmastime Is You' - Summer Camp

CHRISTMAS MASH UPS.

Wonderful Christmastime- Dog Is Dead

So many pimply teens and so many novelty jumpers.

'Santa, Bring My Baby Back To Me' - Belle and Sebastian

Think of it like this- Santa kidnapped her and this is a desperate plea to have her returned, in song format.

'The Christmas Song' - The Raveonettes

Adding a bit of garage and brooding vox to the Christmas canon.

'Father Christmas' - The Kinks

The Brits weigh in.

'The Friendly Beasts' - Sufjan Stevens

He's a Christian. This is the token "actually about Christmas in the religious sense" song. It's pretty, y'know?

'Blue Christmas' - Bright Eyes

For the people who are all bummed out by Christmas.

'Baby, It's Cold Outside'- She and Him

The most famous date rape song ever. But look it's turned around and made twee because she's the one who wants HIM to stay. Also: cute animations and mistletoe.

'Jingle Bell Rock' - Arcade Fire

There is no such thing as a good playlist without them.

'All I Want For Christmas Is You' - Mariah Carey

NO SHAME.
