WATCH: Tame Impala 'Elephant' Live on Jools Holland

Tame Impala perform their latest single 'Elephant Live on UK TV for Jools Holland

I find the nerve of TAME IMPALA to perform ‘Feels Like We Only Go Backwards’ live, after it was just done by the PS22 Chorus, really unbearable. I mean, those kids are just so damn adorable! It’s almost enough to make you drop Lonerism down to number two in your top ten albums of 2012.

Tirades aside, the song has been treated to another solid live rendition, this time overseas on the critically acclaimed BBC programme ‘Later…with Jools Holland’. The Perth trio performed the two latest singles from their second album Lonerism, in the presence of musical heavyweights Sinead O’Connor, Biffy Clyro and Mud Morganfield – Muddy Waters’ son

The whole performance truly reflected the reverence and humility that Australian bands seem to have for Holland’s show and his guests, to the extent that they almost looked bit intimidated by the space. But, like a literal TAME IMPALA (…I’ll show myself out), they’re composure was unwaivering, with Parker’s quivering vocals dancing through the melodies, complemented by a truly Beatle-esque (yep, I went there) psychedelic synth vibe.

And whether or not you’ve seen TAME IMPALA live, it’s a great sneak peak into what we can expect them to do with their new stuff on the stage.

One of the track’s greatest qualities is that it’s a straight up and down simple pop tune, and it’s relieving to see that their live band set up doesn’t stray too far away from this attraction.

But not all is lost for those who love variety and change, as Norwegian group Young Dreams have recently released a cleaner more electronic version of the same song – now in a punnie ‘Feels Like We Only Go Bachwards’. And whilst my opinion is usually never really wanted, or valid, or in any way reasonable, I just as usually give it anyway. I love the crisper synth line in the background, but the chorus vocals sound pretty awkward and the back half of the song after the bridge really looses direction. I guess the jury’s still out on this one.

You can listen to it below, before it is released as part of a Modular remix package.
