With their upcoming support slot for our very own PURPLE SNEAKERS DJs at FBi Social on the horizon (MORE INFO HERE), we thought it was about time we caught up with OLYMPIC AYRES for a quick chat.

Looking forward to FBI social with our very own Purple Sneakers DJs? What can audiences expect to see from you guys?

Plug into the latest music with our FREE weekly newsletter

Yeah Yeah Yeah, of course we are! It will be immense party times guaranteed.

Audiences can expect to see us on stage (with a drummer – shout out to Neill) just trying to bring the positive party vibes to the room. We’ll be playing songs from Episode I & Episode II as well as tracks from the upcoming Episode III so expect to hear some new songs.

How did you like making your first official music video for ‘The View’? Take us through how the clip came together

Well we knew that we wanted to make a clip because we’re into that sort of thing so I started doing some research and found Jos (who also plays in Nantes). He brought some ideas to the table and a few weeks later we set up a camera in my garage with a projector and shot the clip in half a day.

I also hired a smoke machine but we didn’t get a chance to use it… there’s always next time!

How can fans best enjoy your music? Club? Bedroom? Dinner with the in-laws?

I think the best time to put on our music is when your with your friends in a backyard, mad question askin, blunt passin, music blastin! But you just can’t quit

What was the last record(s) you listened to?

Tame Impala – Lonerism

Kendrick Lamar – good kid, m.A.A.d city

T.E.E.D – Trouble

Kindness – World you need a change of mind

Mylo – Destroy Rock And Roll

Onra – Long Distance

A Tribe Called Quest – Low End Theory

Little Dragon – Ritual Union

Whitest Boy Alive – Dreams

Your Soundcloud says “they call us the genre spanners”. How far does your genre-span, span? Are there any specific influences you guys bring along with you when creating music?

It spans as far as we choose really. We don’t put a restriction on any type of musical reference from finding itself in the writing process. It would be boring for us to make the same sounding songs so we like to keep it broad and hope that people follow it as much as we enjoy making it.

If we were to pin-point genres it would definitely be a combination of Electronic, Hip-Hop, Nu-Disco, and Indie music being the main influences

If you could support any artist in the world, who would it be? and why

Little Dragon – I think our styles complement each other … feel good vibes with conscious lyrics that you can dance to

What’s the best live music show you’ve ever been to

M.I.A at the forum, Jamie T at the Metro, Daft Punk, Julian Casablancas at the Metro, Phoenix at Good Vibes

If you weren’t musicians, what would you be?

Speedboat Racer
