Live Review: WATCH: Metronomy ‘Hypnose’ (Official Video)

10 September 2012 | 12:00 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Metronomy. For the video for their singe 'Hypnose' they filmed pets.

METRONOMY. To put it simply, they filmed pets. But, in order to shake things up, they had motif. To portray the disturbed and unseen perspective we put upon pets. In exaggerating this motif, the track ‘Hypnose’ pairs with the video quite intrinsically.

Camera angles, focal points, last glance vision shots, the video itself in hindsight, proves to be quite a project. The focus of capturing different household pets from cats to turtles to dogs to even hedgehogs just rolling around, eating, staring intently, sleeping and even throwing in a few party tricks here or there, really adds dramatic effect to the song. The synth tune is overlayed with strings, giving a slow, hypnotic, transfixing feel, hence the title, ‘Hypnose’.

This probably relates to everyone as well as myself, but I couldn’t help but think of the silly little things my cat tends to do when watching this. METRONOMY have taken something so simple, and simply turned it into a, well, disturbingly perceptive video, yet it is intrinsic in that it hasn’t even been thought of before. This is all emphasised purely through the use and choice of music.
