Live Review: LISTEN: Kimbra, A-Trak & Mark Foster 'Warrior' (Rex The Triangle Remix)

26 September 2012 | 9:00 am | Lauren Payne

Rex The Triangle has done a number on the smash hit 'Warrior' by Kimbra, A-Trak and Mark Foster. Oh boy!

It’s always a happy time when a group of talented musicians get together and create a musical baby to share with the world. Converse has been releasing a lot of these babies into the world this year as part of their Three Artists, One Song Series. In February they released ‘Do Ya Thing’ a collaboration between GORILLAZ, JAMES MURPHY and ANDRE 3000 as part of their campaign. Then they released ‘Warrior’ by KIMBRA, MARK FOSTER and A-TRAK.

‘Warrior’ was released earlier this year encouraging the hype that surrounded KIMBRA and MARK FOSTER at the time. KIMBRA had just been brought into the ‘mainstream’ with the duet ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ that she recorded with GOTYE, and MARK FOSTER’s band FOSTER THE PEOPLE had also just hit the music scene with their track ‘Pumped Up Kicks’. Both acts toured with Big Day Out this year whilst A-TRAK, a successful DJ in his own right, ran his record label Fool’s Gold.

‘Warrior’ is an electronic track that will make you get off your butt and dance. KIMBRA opens the track with her graceful, light vocals whilst A-TRAK’s beats pound delicately in her wake. MARK FOSTER joins the brigade during the chorus of the song combining his high vocals with KIMBRA’s creating the perfect vocal combination.

But now, months after ‘Warrior’ was released, REX THE TRIANGLE has created a remix for the track. REX THE TRIANGLE has tweaked the synths and drum beats from the original track to provide a clean remix that emphasizes the vocals more than expected. You can hear almost every word that both KIMBRA and MARK FOSTER sing and it just makes ‘Warrior’ a more electronic track than it was but hey, both the original and the remix have their own vibe which is cool with me.

The Converse Three Artists, One Song Series has more songs for you to check out:  "All Summer," by BEST COAST, KID CUDI and ROSTAM BATMANGLIJ from VAMPIRE WEEKEND; and MATT AND KIM, SOULJA BOY and ANDREW W.K.'s "I'm A Goner." Fingers crossed remixes for these tracks are released soon as well, I’m lookin’ at you REX!
