Live Review: LISTEN: Big Scary 'Bad Friends' (Collarbones Remix)

12 September 2012 | 10:30 am | Hannah Galvin

Collarbones have reworked Big Scary's 'Bad Friends' with tremendous results. Just ask Hannah...

Originally built by delicate guitar picking, deep piano, subtle bass and traveling percussion, COLLARBONES have worked their magic into Big Scary’s ethereal track, ‘Bad Friends’.

With almost all instrumentation scrapped and replaced with ambient and quivering synthesizers overlaying each other, this version would be better classified as a sonic re-image rather than a remix.

The construction of this rendition is the same as the original in that it does not exceed or build up to anything. Having said this, it is a tune to adore as it releases a blissful energy for listeners to completely chill out to for almost four minutes.

They’ve just released their second single ‘Hypothermia (Featuring Guerre) as a follow up to the well-received ‘Missing’, as well as a film trailer; all for their forthcoming LP Die Young that is to be co-released via Two Bright Lakes / Remote Control on 28th September. Obviously keeping themselves busy in the most creative way, look out for Collarbones as the new record is proving to be an exciting work of art.

Oh, and if you ever get the opportunity to see them, make sure you do. Those boys know how to dance.
