Milhouse, step aside my friend. Your short lived happiness has been overruled by these really cool dudes; you’d like them if you met them I swear.

Everything is now most definitely coming up OCEANICS. Big in the sunshine states, and progressing nicely across Aus later this year on their ‘The City’ tour, OCEANICS are a little bit exciting, and if I was you, I’d probably be a fan. Alas however, I am not you, so I will endeavour convince you of their excellence in this spiel… challenge most fervently excepted.

Band mates ELLIOT, JACKSON, TOM and ANDREW have gotten around, if you know what I mean. That is to say they have played alongside such names as THE JUNGLE GIANTS, SPARKADIA, BLEEDING KNEES CLUB, and BALL PARK MUSIC to name but a few. With a sound that defines the phrase ‘fun in the sun,’ and comparisons tossed around with names like THE STROKES, BEACH BOYS, and THE KOOKS, it’s no wonder the boys have received so much attention, and hopefully far more to come with their upcoming tour following release of their new single ‘The City.’

‘The City’ has just been released in the USA and will inevitably be riding a wave of hype really soon. Recorded on a farm (what I’m sure was a magical mystery farm where, like John Muir, they enter the wilderness with nothing more than their journals and a child-like sense of wonder) with producer Jean-Paul Fung (Last Dinosaurs, Bluejuice), the single is indicative of the group’s excellence and how much they have grown as a band. Until its Australian release however, you will just have to wait with baited breath and consume the time listening to their old school stuff, like EP ‘Bright People.’

Comparison’s aside, the boys are indignantly their own sound. ‘Bright People’ is a testament to this, the 5 track EP (excluding the well placed cover at the end, nice touch by the way) brimming with excellence at its best.

But that’s sort of old news really. OCEANICS have been busy with a bunch of new stuff, stuff that you will see on their ‘The City’ tour, coming soon. Real soon. So for those who are interested (… everyone?) OCEANICS will be touring all the way through to November, jamming with acts THE SALVADORS, VELOCIRAPTOR, and SAMPOLOGY to name a few. The lineup has people talking… I’d go as far as to say sleeptalking… with excitement. So be one of them, and enjoy it.

Watch this space, we’re sure to follow up this article with the release of ‘The City’ in Australia, and a good solid review because we’re thorough and don’t do anything by halves and take our jobs at reporting the latest and greatest in Australian music seriously and shit.
