Live Review: LISTEN: Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix

21 August 2012 | 3:00 pm | Cheryl Billman

Our beloved Orlando Higginbotham AKA Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs has spun up a delectable Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1

By now everyone knows that I’m a fan of BBC Radio 1, and particularly their Essential Mixes, where they wring in the world’s biggest and best artists at any given time and give them two hours to share their current musical obsessions with the world. Not so long ago Purple Sneakers gave you the opportunity to star alongside T.E.E.D, and now I’m giving you the opportunity to party hearty (or is it hardy?) like Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs would as well. You’re welcome.

The only predictable tracks on this mix are the mandatory shameless selfies about halfway down the track listing - with T.E.E.D making an appearance with ‘Your Love’ – and at the very beginning of the mix, with ‘Household Goods’, ‘Trouble’ and ‘Garden’ kicking things off. The other two hours of this absolute banger are packed with artists like Dusky, Aphrodite’s Child and Rivet.

“I didn’t want to put together something that was just a house mix or something that was just the kind of disco side of things that I like,” 25 year-old Orlando Higginbottom explained at time of release.

Success.

This is Higginbottom’s first radio mix in a while but what a way to push back onto the market following the release of his debut album ‘Trouble’ and his announcement on the Falls Festival line-up.
