Live Review: LISTEN: Hercules and Love Affair 'I Try To Talk To You' (Hercules' Tell All Remix)

Deep house. It’s something, that sure, at times can sound a little cheese, but for me, it always makes me feel like a smooth mofo. HERCULES AND LOVE AFFAIR are perhaps one of the best exponents of house music and of course, where else would they be based? House music central, NYC.

They’ve given the remix treatment to their brand new single (off their third album, due for release next year), ‘I Try To Talk To You’ which features the vocal work of John Grant. What I think I love the most about this (apart from the fact it's making a smooth mofo out of me), is the fact that there’s a fait bit of vibraslap in there. Really like me some vibraslap. I also dig the fact that half way through they chill it out with that vocal sample until, slowly, the groove grows, those staccato keys come in and that snare drives along until...BAM. we’re back in the room.

I nearly saw these guys a couple of years ago when they played at the ill-fated Modular Records fest, Nevereverland. I, instead of grabbing a spot up front to check these guys out, decided to get some food. And as we all know - any festival food line wait = full Hercules and Love Affair set. Hoping for a tour in support of the new album though!
