London-based producer Four Tet has just released a fresh remix of the Hot Chip single “Look At Where We Are” from 2012’s In Our Heads.

London-based producer FOUR TET has just released a fresh remix of HOT CHIP’s “Look At Where We Are” from 2012’s In Our Heads.

The remix distils the nostalgic tone of the original song into an even slower, melancholy tune with a classic FOUR TET abstract twist. The chilled intro focuses on singer Alexis Taylor’s delicate vocals and the guitar-lead track, then after about three minutes it breaks down with elements of electro, hip hop and folk instrumentation.

The seven-minute plus track is both energising and relaxing in a strange way, almost hypnotising. We eventually lose sense of the vocals in the mournful synth where the original acoustic sound is transformed into a click-clack drum beat behind a mesmerising electro track. FOUR TET manages to maintain the steady beat of the original with a sound that is both retro and futuristic.

With a beat drawn from PRINCE, there’s the heavy steady beat of HOT CHIP’s tune with a subtle addition of shimmering synth and highly percussive rhythm. It’s a groovy remix with of a great acoustic track from HOT CHIP, if you have the seven minutes it’s worth it to turn on, tune in and drop out.
