Live Review: Grimes Announces Meredith Sideshows + Genesis Clip

For all of you who live out of Victoria or are just extremely poor, it must have pained you to see that Meredith has put together another incredible lineup for this year’s installment.

But luckily, good old Aunty Meredith is usually pretty generous when it comes to her festival acts playing sideshows and 2012 is no different. As the first of these sideshows has just been announced, that’s right; GRIMES will be hitting the East Coast for a couple of shows to coincide with her appearance at the festival.

This makes us incredibly excited, because if you hadn’t already noticed– we’re pretty big fans of the lovely Claire Boucher here at the Purple Sneakers office. And we’re not the only ones, as the majority of Australia has been behind the Canadian since she dropped her stellar LP, Visions, at the beginning of the year. With the album’s spaced out and intriguingly different take on pop receiving rave reviews from our biggest critics and the girl herself winning the hearts of every hipster going around.

Of course it is with regret that we have to inform those of you from the Western/Central states; that unless you feel like traveling across the Nullarbor – you have little chance of catching Grimes's debut Australian live performances . For the rest of you, tickets have already gone on sale. And because of the immense popularity of the tour, there has already been a second Melbourne show announced.

On top of this announcement, Boucher has just released a clip for the latest single ‘Genesis’. And it is by far one of the weirdest things we’ve ever seen. We honestly want to explain it to you, but we can’t, we just can’t. What we can say is that it features, scarily dressed Japanese women, strange dance moves, medieval weaponry, large snakes and Grimes herself. And as much as we don’t understand it, we love it all the same.

In summary, Grimes is brilliant and we suggest you don’t wait around on these shows.
