Live Review: WATCH: The Lumineers 'Ho Hey'

13 July 2012 | 10:30 am | Staff Writer

Americans The Lumineers prove that they do folk music just as good as anyone. Enter the video for new 'Ho Hey.' Just try not to stomp!

Folk music surged into popularity ever since that little diddy about a small man channeling Mustafa hit the airwaves.

However, a trio from the land of the free are challenging the UK's particular grasp on the genre. THE LUMINEERS have released their official video ‘Ho Hey’ and it is everything and more that you want from the world of folk.

‘Ho Hey’ embodies a rustic persona, encouraging you to jump up and have a festive groove despite the melancholic tinge to the lyrics. Wesley, Jeremiah and Neyla are charismatic without being cheesy, cool without being hipsters. You can’t help but smile during the clip and desperately wish you had floorboards to stomp on. It also gives you a sudden urge to wear a hat…and possibly suspenders.

I swear I’m not corny or cliché (or am I…?) but I’d like to end with a quote from the New York Times;

Wesley Schultz, 9, who wants to be an artist, said, ‘I spend a lot of time on my drawings and it turns out good ’cause I’ve been practicing a lot.’” Exchanging his love of crayons for a love of music “he still practices a lot, and it still turns out good.”
