Live Review: WATCH: Spiritualized 'Little Girl'

Following the latest LP release ‘Sweet Heart Sweet Light’ from UK space rock band SPIRITUALIZED comes a gritty and emotionally loaded film clip to their second single ‘Little Girl’.

Directed by Vincent Haycock, who’s worked on video's with people like Calvin Harris, MSTRKRFT and Miike Snow; the clip follows the story of an ambitious and determined teen girl (Chesca Miles) who steals her dad’s money and motorcycle and leaves home in a desperate attempt to escape the miserable despair of post-Soviet life somewhere in central Europe.

Miles’ character gives off a vibe similar to that of Lisbeth in ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ and with the almost ironically titled song, we’re sympathetically drawn to Miles as she travels endlessly in search of some sort of comfort and safety.

Haycock’s story tracks the girl’s hardships as she leaves home and is confronted with trying to hold her own in a harshly cold and unforgiving society. Indeed even though the little girl finds some comfort in a local group of male bikies whom she’s quick to trust, Miles’ character quickly finds out she’s better off alone rather than in such a male dominated environment.

Not only is Chesca Miles on of the UK’s top female stunt riders, but the clip also features some of Germany’s best stunt riders, culminating in some pretty crazy stunt scenes getting a feature in the clip. Street bike gang ‘Julian Pohl and the Eastside Xtremes’ hailing from Eastern Germany get a gig, but even remaining characters were street cast in various dive and biker bars around Berlin.

Not surprisingly there were a few incidents during the three day shoot. This meant two crashes, a written-off bike, a near death tank rattle (I’m not gonna lie, this sounds pretty impressive) and 12 burnt-out tyres. The shooting almost involved the police in a near arrest after producers were caught filming a high speed tracking shot on the autobahn into Berlin at 4am. Dedication.

Spiritualized is set to release ‘Little Girl’ on August 6.
