Live Review: LISTEN: Holly Miranda 'Slow Burn Treason' (Jamie XX Remix)
Jamie XX has pulled apart Holly Miranda's 'Slow Burn Treason', leaving fingerprints of his trademark 'cool' all over her original piece.
’Who’s gonna want you? Who’s gonna hold you? Who’s gonna love you?’ In normal circumstance, ‘Slow Burn Treason’ would be the exact song that hacks at one’s soul and taunts at personal heartaches.
Quite possibly influencing one to also weep aloud ‘who is going to love me? WHY WON’T YOU LOVE ME?!’, shortly followed by an emotional babble about cats/ice-cream gorging/revenge plots and the like.

But HEY! Snap out of it! Luckily JAMIE XX (of THE XX fame) is here to turn this hauntingly beautiful piece of work by HOLLY MIRANDA into a somewhat brighter –pardon my French- and chill-as-fuck remix. So there’s no need to hurt inside anymore. Just dance it off, baby.
MIRANDA’s original is already a playground of ambient synths and percussive hits, not to forget those spine-tingling falsetto echoes of KYP MALONE (TV ON THE RADIO). JAMIE XX respectfully takes these elements and ups the ante, a whole lot more. We’re talking even more synths, percussion and deep bass here people.
‘Slow Burn Treason’ is a mere track off JAMIE XX’s 2011 Essential Mix for BBC’s Radio 1. It may’ve taken a year later for the featured tracks to exist as solitary pieces of musical treasure, but good things come to those who wait.
