Live Review: LISTEN: The Teenagers 'Secret Crush'

The Teenagers are known for their minimal synth work and outrageous lyrics. Their new single, ‘Secret Crush’ doesn’t disappoint.

THE TEENAGERS are known for their minimal synth work and outrageous lyrics. ‘Secret Crush’ doesn’t disappoint with its poppy guitar riff that is outshone by the cheeky bass that peeks its head out in the verse.

Everyone can relate to having a secret crush, and The Teenagers really put their point across with lyrics such as, “I want to fuck you/ but I’m shy/ to even tell you/ but I don’t know why.”

We can all relate to that, right? The Teenagers seem to come off like they are a little bit timid around girls, which is a far cry from their previous hit, ‘Homecoming’. ‘Secret Crush’ sets the scene of truly pining with, “At the skate park/ on the street/ you don’t fucking see me/ you don’t fucking see me and it sucks.”

The tune is whimsical and childish, leaving the listener feeling giddy and perhaps a little bit in trouble for saying the word “fuck” so many times.

I hope all the boys and girls sitting out there right now with secret crushes take a moment to listen to this song and channel their Facebook stalking into another avenue, like hiking or perhaps even obtaining their Scuba license. If all else fails, just listen to ‘Homecoming’ and you will surely feel empowered once again.
