REVIEW: The Tallest Man On Earth ‘There’s No Leaving’ LP

30 May 2012 | 4:30 pm | Staff Writer

The Tallest Man On Earth LP ‘There’s No Leaving’ is expected to be release June 11, so we had a listen and gave a review.

You probably know THE TALLEST MAN ON EARTH as that band your girlfriend introduced you to and then fantasized about later that night when she climaxed the first (and only) time.

I guess I’m just not that in-touch with my instrument. However you know him, Kristian Matsson is man with a deep cavity of songwriting ability. The Swede has gained a loyal following on the back of his earlier releases, highlighted by 2010’s The Wild Hunt.  He recently recorded and produced his third studio album, There’s No Leaving available soon through DEAD OCEANS and INERTIA.

The album has already spawned the single ‘1904’-a real foot-tapper of a ballad, showcasing Mattson’s delightful southern drawl. A trembling voice on ‘Bring Lanterns’ borders on country music, but that’s no reason to dismiss it. The title track is the perfect complement to a cold, lonely evening of tearful reminiscing, making the following track ‘Wind and Walls’ a welcome change, encouraging listeners to dust themselves off and move on.

There’s No Leaving has definite Bob Dylan-esque murmurs, typified by Mattson’s warm and gentle disposition, and the overriding honesty and sincerity of his folksy charm. The Tallest Man On Earth also perpetuates DYLAN’s trademark conversational, stream of consciousness vocal style, case in point ‘Criminals’.

The record is out June 11th
