Live Review: Damon Albarn x Flea = Rocket Juice and The Moon

Born from the chance meeting on a 2008 flight to Lagos is the brand new epic collaboration between DAMON ALBARN (Blur/Gorillaz/The Good, The Bad & The Queen), FLEA (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) and Tony Allen (Fela Kuti's right-hand-man, Afro-beat precursor and the man who Brian Eno proclaimed as the "greatest drummer that ever lived").

The below cover for their debut self titled album (out April 6) pretty accurately reflects the funky, exotic, out-there sound of the record's first teaser titled 'Hey Shooter'. It reminds us a lot of the early artwork from Red Hot Chili Peppers though if you're looking for something that sounds similar to what Albarn or Flea have done before, you'll be disappointed. What we've heard of it definitely has valuable hooks however it isn't the slightest bit radio friendly.

Instead it embraces long spacial, jazzy sections complemented by plenty of sweet lyrical repetition. Other contributors on this include Erykah Badu and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble among many more.

It seems like Damon Albarn is incapable of doing wrong by his fans, check out the brilliant recently launched single from Gorillaz - 'DoYaThang' HERE.
