Live Review: LISTEN: Young Meadows 'Nightmare'

2 April 2012 | 2:00 pm | Staff Writer

With Queensland's indie bands already dominating Triple J, Young Meadows are just another exceptional band from the sunshine state.

I don’t mean to alarm anyone, but I think Queensland has been on some kind of indie-rock-band-producing steroids lately. With the likes of Last Dinosaurs, The Cairos, and Dune Rats, we northern dwellers might be an hour behind in time, but let’s be honest – we’re killing it in the indie charts. Introducing the latest addition to the QLD indie prodigy family: YOUNG MEADOWS.

Hailing from sunny Gold Coast and with their debut EP set for release mid this year, YOUNG MEADOWS have been tearing up QLD venues and Triple J playlists with their summer infused, infectious indie pop-rock sound. ‘Nightmares’ is strung together by a cool, almost Red Hot Chilli Pepper–esque guitar riff, and pulled back by soulful, chilled-out lead vocals. Expect to hear more from these guys as word gets out and they embark on their east coast tour later in the year.
