Live Review: WATCH: Girls ‘My Ma’

6 March 2012 | 6:00 pm | Staff Writer

Watch Girls's video for their song 'My Ma', a reflection on old age and loneliness.

Previous videos from GIRLS’ 2011 album Father, Son, Holy Ghost, have held classic cars, blonde girls and tank tops. For the more melancholy and introspective ‘My Ma’, a heartfelt track dedicated to lead singer Christopher Owens’ mother, the San Francisco band have taken a different tact, exploring aging and loneliness.

The clip follows an older woman (there’s some debate over whether she actually IS Owens’ mother) as she reflects on her youth and career as an actress, emoting admirably in misty and sun drenched shots. ‘My Ma’ will be released on limited edition vinyl on May 22 along with B-side ‘Love Life’.

Watch the clip and see if you agree with the rave reviews that are pouring in.
