Live Review: WATCH: Damon Albarn 'Apple Carts'

Damon Albran's solo effort comes in the form of an opera about the life of John Dee, who among other things dabbled in the dark arts.

DAMON ALBARN is set to release an evocative solo album, Dr Dee, containing material composed for his Dr Dee opera that was part of last years Manchester International Festival. You may be thinking, who’s that guy again? Don’t worry, no biggie. Just that dude who frontiers a couple of bands…one’s named Gorillaz and the other’s called Blur or something.

So what’s the deal again? Well ALBARN and Director Rufus Norris’s Dr Dee (opera) is based on the life of John Dee who was a mathematician, astronomer, astrologer, occultist, navigator and advisor to Queen Elizabeth l. Also a bit of a dabbler in the dark arts…yep he was pretty much the man (insert gangsta hand gesture).

Dr Dee the album is therefore much more than just an awesome playlist; it’s an emotive and intriguing voyage of musical bliss. Plus with such an illustrious career and freaky music genius, it’s probably safe to bet that ALBARN’S new record is gonna be the shit!
