Our Guide To South By Southwest 2012

It's that time of the year again! With Austin, Texas' landmark worldwide music conference South By Southwest looming we thought we'd help you sift through the overwhelming number of acts performing and supply you with our picks of the Festival. Our boys Martin Novosel of Purple Sneakers DJs and Gabe Gleeson of Indian Summer DJs have you covered.

Martin aka PhDJ has been an attendee at pretty much every event since 2007. This year in between the partying he'll be doing interviews with some of the performers and telling us which acts we should be listening to/looking out for over the coming 6-12 months. He honestly did plan on providing you with a list of shit-hot highlights that he was looking forward to checking out but due to the fact that South By Southwest will be hosting over 5000 events this year: he got as far down the list as D and just gave up...

Gabe has never been able to attend the festival but has toured Australia with a few of the acts on offer. He went a bit further down the list and threw in a couple of his picks as well.

GABE'S PICKS

Starting out as gentle indie-rockers, Gold Fields are back in 2012 with a massive raved-out sound the likes of which we havent ever seen in a live band before.

Pets With Pets

Having been around for a couple of years now, Melbourne act Pets With Pets sit somewhere in between My Disco and Eddy Current Suppression Ring with a slightly psychedelic slant.

Taking inspiration from pre indie-rock bands of the 80s like Pavement and FeltTwerps fuse dreamy vocals with wiry pawn shop guitar lines and ultra simplistic drum patterns - all brought together in one delicious hazily constructed pot.

The home grown disco champs had a smash hit late 2010 with 'Crave You' which they very successfully followed up with the track 'Foreign Language' last year. Although they are absolutely massive ('Crave You' is currently sitting at 3,000,000 Youtube views) which could easily see them overlooked in the face of so many unknown bands that could give punters heaps of 'I-saw-them-before-they-were...' cred - their live DJ set is a sight to be seen and should definitely not be missed.

RACHAEL'S PICKS

While editing this post, Purple Sneakers Digital Coordinator, Rachael Lord had to add her two-cents to the mix too. Although not a DJ and with no musical talent whatsoever, Rachael would see these acts if she could!
