Live Review: LISTEN: Lost Weekends 'Swallow Your Pill'

15 March 2012 | 10:00 am | Staff Writer

We're totally digging LOST WEEKENDS' new track 'Swallow Your Pill' and we think you will too. Listen and get on board now.

You can hardly be blamed for brushing off LOST WEEKENDS’ first track for 2012 ‘Swallow Your Pill’, purely based on the slightly cliché “yeah drugs and partying, woo!” vibe that the band name / song title combo lets off. But let’s get this straight right now – if you don’t give the song a chance, you’re probably a dick.

From the addictive opening riff - which is quite reminiscent of Kasabian – it becomes clear that LOST WEEKENDS aren’t some tacky overdone LMFAO “party rockers”, though they do use a touch of electro. ‘Swallow Your Pill’ quite perfectly captures the grotty, yet structured, guitar driven big festival feel that has worked for many a band before them.

Put quite simply, it’s the kind of song you’re going to listen to on repeat, lose your shit to at a gig in some dingy club, then groan about when it gains commercial success and earns LOST WEEKENDS an East-coast only slot at Big Day Out 2013.

Having been produced and mixed by the guy who works wonders with fellow Melbourne-based bands Gold Fields, Snakadaktal and Northeast Party House, and pretty impressively mastered by Brian Lucey  (the dude behind The Black Keys and Jane’s Addiction) - the song more than lives up to its local and international counterparts. We suggest you get on board now.
