Groovin The Moo Spotlight: Interview With Big Scary

9 March 2012 | 1:00 pm | Staff Writer

Between the launch of their latest album, Vacation, and some hectic touring, Big Scary took a moment to have a chat with Purple Sneakers.

With their debut full-length album Vacation due out later this year, Melbourne babes BIG SCARY aren't wasting a moment on a breather. They're currently touring around the US before they head back to Australia in April for their own headline tour and Groovin The Moo. Tom Iansek, one half of the duo, took a break out of their busy schedule have a cheeky chat with Purple Sneakers.

PS:  Big Scary have become so huge since ‘Falling Away’ dropped; The Big Scary Four Seasons and Vacation only brought you more fans.  When do you plan on easing up on touring, kicking back, and reaping your rewards?

TOM: I'm kicking back every day! That's what being a musician's about isn't it? And it's good now too as 'Falling Away' paid for our helicopter so now I don't really have to worry about getting to places on time.

PS: Ha ha! What did you think of Guineafowl’s inclusion of ‘Falling Away’ on their Polaroids of Androids mixtape, placing you next to artists such as Mercy Arms, INXS and David Bowie?

TOM: Yeh, that was a real great moment when we found out we made it onto their list alongside bands such as Mercy Arms, INXS and David Bowie. David's a good friend of mine. Unfortunately it was only really because Guineafowl sleep on my couches every time they're in Melbourne that we made the list I think.

PS: Can you say HI to David for us? Haven't seen him for a while. Kthanks.

Moving on, Where do you get inspiration for your lyrics?

TOM: Lyrical inspiration comes from a lot of different places for me. Lyrics are the thing I feel I have to work the hardest for and something I constantly struggle with, and so for me inspiration can come from other peoples' lyrics, from my own personal experiences and even just nice sounding words and phrases.
