French ambient electro-pop group Air have just finished the soundtrack/album to the 1902 film 'Le Voyage Dans La Lune'.

French ambient electro-pop virtuosos Air have just finished their soundtrack to the DVD re-release of the wildly iconic 1902 film 'Le Voyage Dans La Lune' (A Trip To The Moon). The band will release the full work as an Album which can be pre-ordered HERE.

Highly regarded as one of the most important artifacts in world cinema; the movie documents an Astrologer and several friends on a lunar journey, their subsequent mis-adventures and extra-terrestrial encounters. It is thought to be the earliest example of filmed Science-Fiction ever created. Officially unveiled at 2011's Cannes Film Festival; a colour-reel for 'Le Voyage Dans La Lune' hand painted by director George Méliès was discovered in 1992 which after 20 years of restoration will finally be ready for release and distribution on February 6th 2012.

Air's impressive back catalogue of instrumental music and their experience soundtracking the The Virgin Suicides (1999) made them an obvious canditate for this momentous task. The band's keyboardist Jean-Benoît Dunckel commented that they wanted to create a very other-worldly sounding musical addition to the film “We wanted to give a very surrealistic touch to the movie... Music has to make you leave the Earth.” An interesting decision was also made by the group to use animal noises in the place of all human dialogue.
