FBi SMAC Awards 2011 Nominees

FBi have announced the nominees for the 2011 SMAC Awards

As 2011 draws to a close the good folks at FBi Radio celebrate Sydney’s creativity with their annual SMAC Awards.  With a constant ear to the ground and lips at the mic, the team have announced the nominees for the year across 13 categories covering music, art, film, food, events, venues and all things creative.

We can’t help but well up with pride when we see bands like NANTES who have played at our club nights and been remixed by PURPLE SNEAKERS DJS get some well deserved recognition in the ‘Best Song’ category.  While the nominees do lean heavily on the indie side, hard hitting ROYAL HEADACHE make a pleasant appearance on the ‘Next Big Thing’ and ‘Best Record’ lists; rightfully so with sold out shows supporting Kurt Vile this summer.

While there may have been logistical difficulties in Melbourne, Harvest Festival managed to pick itself up enough for Sydney to make the ‘Major Festival’ along side Musica Tumbalong proving that a new approach to festivals is what this city wants and needs.

The one thing that still baffles me is DONNY BENET.   Luci Schroder who created the hilarious oddball 80’s video for his track ‘Sophisticated Lover’ (Watch VIDEO) definitely deserves the props but I seriously am concerned for anyone that takes his music as anything more than a novelty act.  Is it just me?
