HAVE YOU HEARD: Royal Headache

It's been a while since we have seen a local band that can make a crowd go mental the way Sydney boys ROYAL HEADACHE do.

It's been a while since we have seen a local band that can make a crowd go mental the way Sydney boys ROYAL HEADACHE do.  Strutting around the stage with his half-naked, sinewy body on display, front man Shogun creates an urgent frenzy amongst his audience members. He has a piercing, distinctive voice that is drenched in sadness but constantly lifted out of the doldrums by his dark sense of humour. His voice is the icing on the cake that is a beautiful, simple musical idea. ROYAL HEADACHE’S blend of punk, garage and soul is unmistakably their own.

Their new self-titled album is out now through Sydney label R.I.P. SOCIETY and it is a perfect representation of what to expect live. This could possibly be the best Australian release of 2011. Big call, yes, but this album truly is a gem. Tracks such as 'Honey Joy' and 'Really In Love' will have you dancing around your lounge room screaming – “Yes, I am really in love with ROYAL HEADACHE!”

After a recent tour of the U.S. they will be back in Sydney to play Maggot Fest at The Red Rattler on Saturday November 5.
