Springtime Festival Makes 'Tough Decision' To Cancel 2024 Event

Springtime, the Surfer’s Paradise free three-day music, arts, entertainment, and skateboarding festival, won’t go ahead this year. Organisers have cited an “increase in costs” affecting their ability to host the festival.
In a statement posted to Instagram a few days ago (3 May), festival promoters wrote, “We’ve made the tough decision to take a break for this year.
“The increase in costs to deliver epic festivals such as SPRINGTIME has made it all that more challenging.
“While we won’t be returning to the golden shores of Surfers Paradise this year, we’re keen to keep the good times coming and are looking at other ways that we can support our amazing music scene.
“Australia has some awesome homegrown talent, let’s keep giving them as much love as we can”.
Last year’s Springtime festival was headlined by Matt Corby, touring hot off the heels of his latest LP, Everything’s Fine. He was joined by BENEE, Bag Raiders, psych-pop outfit Babe Rainbow, indie-rock tour de force Eliza & The Delusionals, rising pop powerhouse Bella Amor, grentperez, Brisbane indie-pop act yb. and Sunshine & Faith Disco Choir.

The festival also locked in Girl & Girl, Mitch Santiago, Daste., Chutney, Greatest Hits, Dizzy Days, Austin Mackay, Radolescent, Lemaire, The Vultures, Betty Taylor, Big Fuzz, Tomorrow’s Forecast, N’jaane, Bill Durry and Jason Van Miert.
“2023 was the second year of the Gold Coast’s free all-ages festival, and what a year it was,” Purple Sneakers’ Tione Zylstra wrote in a festival review.
Adding that “Surfers Paradise was booming with music lovers, the streets electric with energy,” Zylstra remarked, “BENEE was the perfect end for the perfect day at Springtime. And then the audience headed home, ready to do it all again the next day.”
Festival Director Mark Duckworth said of the ideas behind last year’s event: “We created this festival to showcase the very best of Australia’s contemporary artists as well as to celebrate and support the musical talent right here in our own backyard on the Gold Coast.
“I am proud to say we were able to achieve that, and more, in 2022 and saw some impressive crowds come along to enjoy our free festival on the beach.”
