Live Review: Andy Garvey's Pure Space label launches with spacious compilation 'PS001.1'
Arguably one of the busiest people in music in the country right now is Sydney producer/DJ/radio host ANDY GARVEY. We've profiled her a bunch of times here on Purple Sneakers, including delving into her debut EP Eternal Recurrence. Out on UK label Lobster Theremin not even a month ago, she's backing it up already with the first release on her radio-show-come-record-label Pure Space.
It's the first part in a series of ongoing various artist compilations, all encompassing the sound and vigour of the show of the same name she programs weekly on FBi Radio.
The intergalactic four-tracker sees her nabbing four of the best for the release. Aussie producer Daze launches us into the first track of the A side, 'Advanced Reality'. With previous releases on the likes of Lobster Theremin, Valcrond Video, LKR Records and more, this one sees him step outside of his usual sound, and delivering something new. This pulsing techno burner doesn't take a moment to breathe, alarm bells growing louder with the passing seconds until they simmer at the track's end.
Melbourne's Lou Karsh under his Reptant moniker rounds out the A side with 'Microstructure', a hypnotic jet-propelled odyssey through stuttered drums, echoed static and lush pads.

On the B side, Sydney producer Point Guard delivers an in-your-face, staunch club cut guaranteed to fire it all up. Warped portals of sound warp fluidly in and out of the crisp percussion making for a wholly 3D sound.
And to round it all out, E Davd delivers fluid acid on 'Wavestation (Nu Cycle Mix)'. Pairing the classic sounds of the 808 with glittery pads and shimmering synths, it's the perfect way to round out this exploration of out of this world sounds.
Keeping in stead with the soundscape Pure Space has built over the years, the first addition to the VA series is both introspective and markedly poignant. Reflecting the charm of untraversed sounds, particularly here in Australia, Andy Garvey's eye for curation remains consistently strong.
