Haiku Hands guide us through Sydney's Inner West

26 February 2019 | 5:49 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

The HAIKU HANDS gals have had a stellar 12 months. Commanding dancefloors not only across the country, but over various parts of the world too, you could say that they're bonafide dance commanders at this point.

The three-piece wrapped up a national tour in support of Bloc Party, in the country for their Silent Alarm tour. They backed that one up by announcing that they'd be heading out on a debut national tour of their own, and with that came a single with purveyors of all things dance related, True Vibenation called 'Squat'.

In step with the group's ethos of wanting to make you dance, the coming together of both musical groups was an apt one.

At the onset of their national tour, Haiku Hands shared yet another single with us, one that they've been bumping in their live set for a long time. 'Dare You Not To Dance' is a certified slapper, guaranteed to make you groove.

To celebrate the tour, and to get the gals thinking about their hometown, they've given us a quick rundown of some of their favourite spots to hang in Sydney's inner west. Take a read below!

NSW Art Gallery

Peaceful and a nice time for your eyes, the NSW art gallery is one of my favourite places to go in Sydney. There are so many beautiful works there and It has a great after hours night on Wednesday. We played there one night and started a mosh pit, this was such a great memorable night.

U-Turn

Sells interesting second hand clothing and they have provided some of our on stage wear. I like their philosophy that everyone should have access to amazing clothes which is affordable and sustainable. One of my favourite things about the shop is that you find a wide range of people in there.

Supper Deli

One of Marrickville’s treasures, you can get some great wraps from this place. It has helped us a handful of times when blood sugar levels have plummeted and we have found ourselves staring into nothing.

Butchers Brew

This is a new venue in Dulwich Hill. There is a really good jazz night on every Tuesday. Times are tuff for Sydney venues, so its great to see new bars opening up which support live music.

Portugal Madeira Club (Marrickville)

You got disco lighting, you got Casio entertainment, you got 1960’s bathrooms, you’ve got tennis courts, great cuisine, casual outdoor area…. and its right next to the beautiful Henson Park oval where you can watch the sun set and a bit of footy training.
