Live Review: TROPHIE delivers euphoric pop on 'Hostile Takeover'

5 December 2018 | 10:42 am | Caitlin Medcalf

Sydney gal TROPHIE's fast making a name for herself for her rapid fire approach to making some of the most harsh, hard-hitting pop this side of the web's ever seen. With a stellar EP, a heavy run of singles and an exceptional live show under her belt, she's continuing her run with 'HOSTILE TAKEOVER'; an entirely new side to the producer/songwriter that we've not seen yet.

Taking a leaf out of the poppier side of PC Music's label catalogue (lookin' at you EasyFun), 'HOSTILE TAKEOVER' is absolutely not what you'd expect it to be based on the name alone.

It opens with a delicate little melody that pairs perfectly with her autotuned, falsetto vocals, so it's definitely a bit of a Charli XCX meets TROPHIE vibe.

The production builds its way up as the track progresses, adding light little sound effects in with the carefully crafted sound design. There's so many little nuances that weave their way in and out of this track, I feel like everytime I listen to this track, I get something new out of it each time.

TROPHIE's continually proving that she's not only one to watch, but she can damn do it all. She can do club, she can do soft, she can do punchy. As a producer, she's versatile, and best of all, you'll never know what she's going to give you next.
