Live Review: PREMIERE: Let Taka Perry take you on a journey through the 'Clouds'

I've got massive amounts of respect for artists who can work their magic not only within their own projects, but can take the skills that they have and reappropriate them to fit other artists and their musical vision too.

TAKA PERRY is one of those producers, working hard both on the surface and behind the scenes for acts like Thomston, KLP, Ruel, Mallrat, Woodes, SACHI and Max Frost just to name a few. All of those acts have Taka in common, but another factor they have in common is that all of those pop acts are incredibly unique and are built on something outside of the traditional pop narrative.

Despite only being 20 years of age, Taka's been working with pop acts for what would seem like a lifetime, so it's only fitting that for his own project, he emerge from the workbench with something totally outside of the pop realm.

'Clouds' is the name of the first instalment of a four-part series he's unleashing. We will have all four parts to this series by the year's end, but for now we're premiering the inaugural number to this exciting, enigmatic adventure.

The track is fuelled by balance. Equilibrium is achieved here through his masterful application of carefully chosen sounds and samples but also through the track's structure. I think what's most exciting about this one is the way it's been put together. There are many parts to this puzzle and when looked at as a whole, it emerges organic and cohesive. But zoom in on those parts, and you can really see where the knowledge and understanding Taka has of music as a whole really works into this one.

If there's one thing to take from this project, it's to be inquisitive. Let's not be afraid to ask, 'What comes next?'
