Authentic and honest are two adjectives that spring to mind when one thinks of ALLYSHA JOY, one member of the Melbourne collective 30/70.

Authentic and honest are two adjectives that spring to mind when one thinks of ALLYSHA JOY, one member of the Melbourne collective 30/70 who is branching out on her own to release what is shaping up to be one soulful solo project. The singer, writer, pianist and poet has just released ‘Selfish’, a track about one-sided love that showcases Joy’s prowess in songwriting and emanates a unique aura of self-empowerment. This tune comes as a fresh appetiser off the artist’s upcoming debut album Arcadie : Raw, which is scheduled for release this Friday, the 21st of September, through UK label Gondwana Records.

Featuring dynamic and soul-influenced musical tones, ‘Selfish’ is a single that offers listeners the opportunity to recline into the groove and be a little sassy at the same time. It’s the kind of song that makes you want to pout your lips, jerk your neck from side to side and maybe even execute a couple of cross-body clicks to backup Joy’s husky, embellished vocals. A special mention is owed to the throbbing bassline and backbeat drums that drive this song and works as a backbone for Joy’s singing to really flourish.

This song is the second to be released from Joy’s debut album, following her more upbeat, jazz-influenced single 'Know Your Power'. Despite the clear differences in musicality and mood there is no mistaking the underlying theme residing in the artist’s lyrics about taking matters into your own hands, being assertive and being true to yourself. Both tracks also have accompanying videos that are moody and beautifully styled and it’s worth mentioning that the clip for ‘Selfish’ was shot in London’s very cool Total Refreshment Centre, before it sadly closed a few months ago due to police investigation. Still, it's the perfect setting for 'Selfish' and for Allysha Joy to lay it all out.

Speaking on her forthcoming album, Allysha Joy said, "From beginning to completion of creating this music, it has been a chance to express a deeper, more personal side of self and to take full control of the vision and the music. This record has allowed me to dive deeply into my creative expression and is just the beginning."

Shooting video clips in London? Debut solo LPs? No biggie for Allysha Joy for sure. We're very excited for Friday’s release!

Allysha Joy's Arcadie : Raw is out September 21st via Gondwana Records.
