Live Review: PREMIERE: Hounded and Tom Montesi share beautifully intimate acoustic version of Higher

2 August 2018 | 10:00 am | Emma Jones

Breathing fresh life into their euphoric dancefloor filler, Hounded and Tom Montesi rework 'Higher' into a vulnerable and intimate affair.

What was once a swirling, euphoric dance tun has been reworked into an acoustic rendition that breathes a whole new life into the song. HOUNDED and TOM MONTESI's collaboration, 'Higher', was practically made for summer, but today we're sharing a very special acoustic version that will cut straight to your emotions in a completely different way.

As part of the Forbes Street Sessions, the duo have come together once more to completely breakdown their upbeat and energetic dance cut, bouncing off each other to create something that's intimate and vulnerable in the original's place. Montesi's vocals are raw and pensive, and with just a simple piano and Hounded on a gentle guitar, the once explosive song about letting love in and how high you feel when you're falling for someone gets a fresh perspective with intense emotion now on display.

Acoustic versions of dance songs are a risk that has absolutely paid off here as 'Higher' beautifully blooms and swells, with its new arrangement making you feel almost like you're being let in on a very private moment rather than a public outburst. If anything, the thrill of love and falling in it deep is amplified here as both Hounded and Montesi let in a fresh and intimate light, expertly crafting this new version so it holds its own against the stellar original.

Sometimes love makes you want to scream from the top of a mountain, but sometimes it makes you stop and take a moment to breathe and look around. Thanks to Hounded and Tom Montesi, they've now got two songs to perfectly soundtrack either moment.

The acoustic version of 'Higher' is out August 3rd via Universal Music.
