Five women on the 2019 Field Day lineup that prove the future is here

31 August 2018 | 12:51 pm | Jackson Langford

Here are just some of the absolutely awesome, groundbreaking women you have the chance to check out at Field Day 2019.

This year's NYE festivals have pretty much all announced their lineups, and there's much to get excited about. But, one of the latest cabs off the rank, the Fuzzy backed FIELD DAY, has given us more talent than we know what to do with. With a bill topped by two of the biggest artists in the world right now, it's a lineup that is flooded with talents across pop, electronic, hip-hop and everything in between.

But one of the best things about this year's Field Day lineup is, similarly to Fuzzy's Listen Out lineup for 2018, is that they've proven that there are tons of women thriving in these male-dominated genres. Not only are they thriving, but they are winning - giving us unique, fresh and absolutely electrifying sounds that set them above and beyond their contemporaries. Here are just some of the absolutely awesome women you can check out at Field Day 2019.

PEGGY GOU

This Korean, Berlin-based DJ truly wears all the hats. Besides just announcing a fashion label called Kirin ('giraffe' in Korean) and working on her own record label Gudu which she hopes she can use to help other Asian artistsPeggy Gou consistently delivers stunning house music that perfectly kaleidoscopes her origins, her present and, most importantly, her future. Every song she crafts is whimsical and glittering, but still stays raw to who Gou is as an artist.

ALICE IVY

In a dense Australian electronic music industry, Alice Ivy made quick work early on to forge her own lane. Now, with the release of her debut album I'm Dreaming earlier this year, she has not stopped shining. Making a name for herself with tracks of quirky summer and relentless energy, she has found a way to keep you guessing with a balancing act of subdued minimalism and unabashed fierceness, and she'll have you hanging on to every last beat.

MAHALIA

Mahalia is an artist that taps into more senses than just hearing when one of her slinky, R&B trakcs begins to play. With the voice of an angel, this British artist - who has been in the game since she was 13 by the way - evokes colours, feelings, scents and everything in between. The way her voice switches so seamlessly from rich and soulful to delicate and airy will have you transfixed, and the way she flows into the smooth production will leave you wanting so much more.

AMY SHARK

Amy Shark's rise to stardom is the stuff of Hollywood pipe dreams. After years of hard work with little to no reward, the persistent singer-songwriter broke through in 2016 with the words heard around the nation: 'Get me a drink/I get drunk off one sip/Just so I can adore you'. Since then, Amy Shark has been, in no uncertain terms, unstoppable. She is like a demolition ball of an artist - everything critics say she won't be able to do, she does it with finesse, vulnerability and a subtle flipping of the bird. She toes the line between alternative pop and electronic music with undeniable grace, but still feels like she's someone you might've grown up with.
