Live Review: Fall in love with EVA as she falls for herself on 'Touch Me'

9 August 2018 | 3:32 pm | Holly O'Neill

After singing back up vocals for SOLANGE, BLOOD ORANGE and CHARLI XCX, Toronto vocalist EVA seems more than qualified to step into the spotlight herself. Her experience across multiple facets of the pop spectrum bleeds into her latest single 'Touch Me', as she reinterprets 80's inspired poptimism with fluttering synths under a mantra of self love.

Made in collaboration with PC Music's own DANNY L HARLE, his bursts of glossy synths and bright songwriting shines between EVA's polished delivery. Sensuous electric guitar plucks ground the whole track, channeling a more traditional pop tone but replacing the backing band with warm pads and drum machines. EVA's breathy delivery emphasises her own infatuation, not only with the boo of her dreams but her ability to take control of her own pleasure.

Yes, 'Touch Me' is about that kind of self love, but the track is pulled of with such grace and unapologetic joy you can barely even clock it. Upon a stray listen it seems innocent, but behind its peppy chord progression and twinkling synths is smart but cheeky lyricism and a sophisticated take on self empowered pop.

Following the artist's recent signing to B4, a future facing pop label, 'Touch Me' looks like a step in a new direction for EVA that brings her progressive values and love of 80's tones to a whole new level.

EVA's single 'Touch Me' is out now via B4, you can find it on your downloading/streaming service of choice here.
